Ruth's Four Commitments to District 2

1. Responsible Budgeting and Financial Accountability

DeKalb County Schools manages over one billion dollars every year. That is a serious responsibility, and right now our community deserves more transparency in how that money is being allocated and spent. As a CFP® Professional, Ruth knows how to build a budget, ask the right questions, and make sure money is going where it belongs - into classrooms and student support. She will push for full accountability in how District 2 funds are managed and spent, and she will not stop asking hard questions until families can trust that their tax dollars are truly working for their children.

2. Clear Policies That Support Students and Schools

Good policies create safe, structured schools where students can focus on learning. Right now, there is more work to do to make sure our rules and guidelines truly reflect what District 2 families need and expect. Ruth will work with the full board to review, strengthen, and modernize policies covering everything from classroom operations to student conduct, keeping students and families at the center of every decision.

3. A Real Plan for the Future

Every student deserves a school system that knows where it is headed. Ruth will push for honest, realistic strategic planning that sets clear goals, tracks progress, and holds the district accountable for results. From early learning through college and career readiness, she believes District 2 needs a strong roadmap and the commitment to follow it.

Families do not just choose a house - they choose a school. Where people put down roots, raise their children, and build their lives is directly connected to the schools in their neighborhood. With DeKalb County potentially facing the closure of up to 27 schools over the next 5 to 10 years, families need to know that the board has a real plan. Ruth is committed to long-term thinking that gives families the confidence to move into DeKalb County, stay here, and invest in this community. When families trust our schools, our neighborhoods grow stronger, and our students have every opportunity to succeed.

4. A Community That Is Heard and Included

Parents and neighbors should never feel like outsiders when it comes to their own schools. Ruth is committed to open board meetings where community members are genuinely welcomed, not just tolerated. She will make it a priority to listen, communicate clearly, and bring the real concerns of District 2 families into every board discussion and decision.
